Secluded stylish apartment in Tuscany in this lovingly restored farm house, Casa Cucule, with infinity pool.
Nestling on a hillside off the beaten track in the famous Chianti wine region spectacular views look out over a hidden valley to the Medieval Tuscan hilltop village of Montebenichi. The apartment is perfect for two, but can sleep up to four people comfortably. It is ideally situated for idyllic, romantic tranquillity as well as exploring the wealth of Etruscan, Medieval and Renaissance History and Art on our doorstep, in places with such evocative names as Siena, Florence, Cortona and San Gimignano, not to mention many other hidden jewels to be discovered on foot or by car.

The apartment accommodation The 60sq meter 1 bedroom apartment was our home before restoration of the rest of the house, where we now live, was completed in 2003. It is located on the ground floor west wing of Casa Cucule. The apartment is totally self-contained and private. It has a spacious double bedroom with en-suite shower room; a large comfortable living space made up of sitting area, dining area, and a kitchen area; allowing plenty of space to lounge, cook a wonderful meal with local ingredients, dine or just relax and enjoy the peace.
We bought our simple farmhouse in in Tuscany in 1991 and have restored it, literally from ruins, using traditional Tuscan materials including chestnut beams and terracotta ceiling and floor tiles. This apartment in Tuscany interior reflects the traditional country style of the house and includes many finds from my trips to India and Africa as a textile designer. It also has up-to-date modern appliances and high quality fixtures and fittings.
From the wonderful smell of lavender and other herbs planted around the house, to the eclectic furnishings that decorate the rooms inside, Casa Cucule is truly a home
Bedroom:furnished with comfortable double bed, antique bedside tables and good reading lights; an ample wardrobe and cupboard, tribal rugs, and a rattan chair complete the cool and cosy atmosphere.
Bathroom: en-suite with modern fixtures and fittings - bidet, toilet, washbasin, shower - not enclosed to allow freedom of movement- a large antique mirror and good lighting.
Sitting area: sofa (double sofa-bed), 2 antique Indian wood and leather day-beds with plenty of cushions, good reading light, CD stereo and TV - for watching videos only - and a comprehensive library of CDs, videos and books – a wide selection of novels, recipe books and many books about visiting and living in Tuscany.
Kitchen area: fully equipped 'cook’s kitchen' with 4 ring gas stove, oven, extractor fan with light, plenty of work top space, large fridge/freezer and all the pots, pans, knives, utensils and other equipment you are likely to need to cook wonderful meals. There are also many fresh herbs around the house to add to your authentic Tusan culinary delights.Utility Room: extra cushions and mattresses for the terrace loungers and chairs are available any time in the utility room, along with a washing machine and separate dryer; these are also shared with the owners.
Outdoor living at Cucule Apartment in Tuscany
Terrace: large private terrace at the front and side of the apartment is comfortably furnished for dining and lounging; perfect for leisurely ‘al fresco’ meals or napping on a sun-lounger soaking up the Tuscan sunshine.
It’s a great spot to enjoy the surrounding aromatic garden of lavender and santolinas together with the many species of butterflies that are drawn to them all summer long…
….or to simply gaze at the surrounding views; in the evening you might be lucky enough to spot a family of wild boar or barking deer as they graze in the valley below….
…at night the star lit sky is probably as light pollution free as you can find any where in Europe and a real joy when coupled with the sounds of nightjars and tawny owls.
The Cucule Apartment in Tuscany pool is set in a garden landscape that natrually blends into the surrounding countryside
Swimming pool: 15m x 5.50m and 2.40m at the deep end; great for swimmers who want to exercise and have fun diving, and ideal too for those who just want to cool off and relax. The pool area is furnished with umbrellas, wooden loungers with mattresses and a fresh spring-water shower.
The soft grey liner and natural local stone edging set the pool discreetly into the hillside olive grove while the infinity edge provides a sensational experience as you swim looking out over the wonderful, totally unspoilt, wooded landscape, wildlife pond and river below.
It is shared only with us, the owners, and only one of us swims! So, you have it to yourselves most of the time.
